Shock claims in Spain: Gareth Bale demands Real Madrid do this with Cristiano Ronaldo
GARETH BALE is fed up of playing the role of Cristiano Ronaldo's understudy and has demanded Real Madrid build a team around him, according to shock claims in Spain.
Bale has been in Ronaldo's shadow since signing for Real Madrid from Tottenham for £80million in 2013.
The Wales international has won over fans by firing the club to two Champions League titles in three years.
He had hit seven goals for the season before sustaining an ankle injury in a Champions League clash with Sporting Lisbon back in November.
It is claimed Bale wants to be Madrid's main man with Ronaldo struggling to reach his usual dizzying heights.
Spanish outlet Don Balon report the 27-year-old is desperate to replace Ronaldo as the star of the team.
Instead, he wants to be Madrid's talisman and future club captain.
While Bale is determined to be the main man at Real, he is wanted by Manchester United and Chelsea.
The Premier League duo are reportedly keen to sign Bale for £172million at the end of the season.
Both clubs are willing to make him the face of the team in order to lure him back from Spain.
And, should Madrid fail to do so, a sensational Premier League return could be on the cards.
